Another Alumni tournament has come and went. It turned out to be a beautiful Saturday ☀️🕶️ for some softball. Nine teams entered the day looking to find some chemistry on the field.
Bangarang Brown started the day with a Bang 🎆 with the Haak brothers beating up on their older brother Ben with a score of 6-2. Bangarang then went on to win all of their round robin games and securely lock up the number 1 seed. Most games they were double the score of their competitors. There was a lot of chatter of them being kicked out of the tournament for being too good. Haters gonna hate right😡?
No real team took hold of the number 2 seed with 5 teams going 2-1. The old timers, Chicago Beers, somehow squeezed in as the second seed in large part to them smacking 🪅 the Designated Drinkers 22-2. The Designated Drinkers once again showed up with only 1 girl. Rumor has it that the team is investing in Tinder Plus for all of its players in the hope that one of them can get a girlfriend 💕 before the next tournament. The betting odds of them finding 3 girls is as high as them winning a game next year!
Bangarang Brown walked to the finals putting up 33 runs in the two knockout games against “No Love, No Glove” and “The Purple Playas”. Jack Romano and Brennan Lupyrypa went head to head in the quarter finals when the Chicago Beers took on Spenler Cups. The 2-time defending champs had a rough round robin going 1-2. Both Jack and Brennan hit a homerun but the Chicago Beers’ defense came up strong holding them to only 2 runs. Jack may have won the game but Brennan still sits at the top of the all-time home run leader list 📋. The Beers then had a walk-off home run in the semis against the Jorts to advance to the finals.
Bangarang Brown was the heavy favourites in the final. They were younger, in better shape, and hitting homers all day. The Chicago Beers only chance was to play some small ball 🥎 on them. In the third inning they did exactly that by scoring 4 runs all on singles and doubles. The Chicago Beers then proceeded to use some home runs to knock in some more runs. Bangarang Brown found themselves down 16 to 10 going into the final inning but with 4 home runs to use. They proceeded to hit 4 single shot 💣 home runs. The Chicago Beers defense then proceeded to shut them down leaving the tying run on second base.
The Turner family graciously donated a brand new Alumni Trophy 🏆 in memory of their daughter Rachel Turner. A 2023 convenor, an alumni champion and someone who represented all the good things about MLSB. The trophy will be retrofitted with all the previous winning teams. The trophy then will tour across Canada as each player for the Chicago Beers 🍻 takes a few weeks with it!
